PurposeThe National Fire and Emergency Memorial Service is held annually at the National Emergency Service memorial on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra. Over 400 fire and emergency personnel who have died on duty, will be honoured on a Memorial Wall to be constructed adjacent to the existing memorial site. This Memorial Wall will list all those who have died on duty and provide an opportunity for further names should they be required. It will be a permanent and fitting tribute to all those who have died fighting fires and supporting communities during emergencies. The majority of these names to be displayed on the Wall are volunteers. A website will be developed to support the Memorial Wall. This will provide further detail on the individual and allow searching of names. This initiative supports the Government's commitment to building our nations resilience through supporting and recognising our nation's emergency services personnel, in particular volunteers.

PurposeMantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) has short survival and new treatments are urgently required. Our group pioneered the ibrutinib-venetoclax combination in MCL in the AIM1 study, reporting a 71 percent complete remission rate. In this proposal, we will use the knowledge from AIM to identify resistant patients apriori, and introduce the new drug navitoclax. For all patients, we will include the monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody. These results will be compared against the results of the AIM1 study.

PurposeThis project aims to determine if improving teacher knowledge and practice of mindfulness in the classroom, can lead to better child attention and school functioning outcomes during the early primary school years. Mindfulness is an approach that aims to improve attention, self-regulation, mental health, and cognitive functioning. Expected outcomes include new knowledge as to whether mindfulness can be integrated into classroom practice, how to best implement it, student benefits and cost-effectiveness. Findings will inform schools as to whether this approach can support students in making a positive transition to primary school that can place them on positive academic and well-being pathways and lead to benefits in their adulthood.
ActivityDoes a teacher-led mindfulness intervention improve student outcomes-

PurposeThis project aims to explore the post-war architectural, rural and industrial landscapes of Australia as shaped by the labour of displaced persons. Migrants after the Second World War were critical to the spatial making of modern Australia. Major federally-funded industries driving post-war nation-building programs depended on the employment of large numbers of war-displaced persons. While the immigrant contribution to nation-building in cultural terms is well-known, its everyday spatial, architectural and landscape transformations remain unexamined. This project aims to bring to the foreground post-war industry and immigration to comprehensively document a how Australia has uniquely shaped its built environment.

PurposeThis project aims to investigate the impact of global subscription video-on-demand platforms on national television markets. The rise of subscription video streaming has created significant challenges for Australian and international broadcast, media and cultural policy frameworks, which are struggling to keep up with audience viewing practices. This project will provide a comparative analysis of how governments are responding and investigating the implications for debates about local content, local screen production, and media diversity. The project will provide an analysis of original production and programming strategies to identify new forms of trans-national media flow. The project will advance an understanding of media globalisation and provide media regulators options and opportunities for a convergent media policy environment.

PurposeThis proposal aims to assess the impact of geographical and genetic isolation of the Australian Indigenous population on adaptive and innate immune systems. The project will use novel DNA sequencing approaches to generate the high resolution sequences of two genetic loci that regulate innate and adaptive immune responses, the major histocompatibility complex locus and the killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor locus. In an initial screen, distinct variants and combinations of these genes were identified. This project aims to interrogate how variation in these critical genes impacts on the function of cytotoxic lymphocytes, providing insights into the evolutionary drivers of immune recognition mechanisms.
