It is the home of local football, cricket and tennis clubs and provides a picnic location and playground facilities. On a monthly basis for 7 months of the year the Park runs community/family dinner nights that attract a sizeable proportion of the township's small population. Fundraising limitations coupled with ever-increasing electricity prices put a constant strain on the park's ability to sustain itself as an important part of the community. Purpose1st Elwood Scout Group will install a modest 5kW solar PV system as this aligns with a core value the youth learn - to respect the environment and avoid resource depletion. Lower operating costs is also important. All adults involved are volunteers. We fund-raise as required, but the time diverted into fund-raising is better spent on improving the youth programs. We are now strong and sustainable - but the Group did cease operating for 10 years until 2008, in part, due to the vicious circle created by reduced numbers requiring more fundraising effort per family - leading to reduced incentive to remain as members benefiting from Scouting's development of youth into leaders. Reduced operating costs are thus a key Committee objective.

PurposeWe will purchase and install a 11.4kW solar PV system for our community-based childcare centre. The solar system will reduce environmental impact on the community and made good sense to us due to our centre being open in daytime. It will be able to feed up most of our power needs in daytime operation. The children will also enjoy learning about solar energy as sustainability is part of our education and in keeping with future schooling and lifestyle choices. Importantly, solar power not only decreases our electricity bills but insures us against future electricity price hikes. This helps us to fulfil our mission of control in price and offer quality services at affordable fee, which in the end would be advantageous for low-income families.

PurposeEarly Childhood Management Services (ECMS) is going green by installing solar panels at their St Albans West Preschool. This is a positive step for ECMS as it will improve the environment by decreasing the carbon footprint, whilst educating children on the importance of renewable energy. Solar energy is a process where harnessed energy from the sun is directly converted to electricity, producing zero greenhouse emissions. By improving breathable air and reducing health risks associated with fossil fuels, we are investing in a sustainable option that promotes healthier living for future generations. Furthermore, choosing renewable energy will reduce energy costs meaning savings can be redirected into resources and the education of children.

PurposeThe Strathalbyn Woodshed (SWS) will purchase and install a 10 kw PV System, generating clean energy and substantially reducing our grid consumption and associated CO2 emissions. We are a member of the Aust. Men's Shed Association, have been operating since 2004. The SWS is used by various community groups, including school students, Uni of 3rd Age, and scouts. A significant part of power consumption is for dust control, to improve work health and safety conditions. The cost saving in electricity will allow us to diversify our programs and therefore broaden our community reach. The shed is north facing and ideally sited to maximise the harvest of solar energy. We believe this project is consistent with Strathalbyn s clean green reputation.
